New Facebook Tools
March 19, 2008 by Jonathan
Facebook released some new features yesterday. They cover something the media and parents everywhere are growing more concerned about- Privacy.
However, the more interesting part is that they mentioned they will be releasing an instant message feature soon. This is great- how many times have you had a long onerous wall to wall message in class. It would be so much easier to use some sort of IM. Strange thing is, because AOL/MSN/Yahoo/Gtalk refuse to work together, facebook may step in as the de facto standard, at least in terms of use.
In addition, the company confirmed recent reports it is working on a new instant messaging chat feature that runs inside Facebook, allowing users to hold spontaneous back-and- forth chat with their friends on the site.
Facebook Chat, as the feature is known, will be introduced in a matter of weeks, the company said. It works inside a Web browser without requiring that users download any special software, akin to services such as Meebo.com, to allow one-on- one chats.
Thanks to Calvin for the tip!
